About The Lyric Stage Company

Known as the intimate “4-star theatre” in Copley Square, The Lyric Stage Company is Boston’s oldest theatre company, dedicated to presenting a wide range of the highest quality plays and musicals.

Founded in 1974, and deeply committed to nurturing the talents of Boston-area theatre artists, The Lyric Stage Company presents seven productions each season to an annual audience of over 40,000, including over 2,000 Season Ticket Holders.

In our 35 years, The Lyric Stage Company has earned 18 Elliot Norton and 42 Independent Reviewers of New England Awards. During his tenure, Producing Artistic Director Spiro Veloudos has received the StageSource Theatre Hero Award and the Elliot
Norton Prize for Sustained Excellence.

“Since becoming producing artistic director of The Lyric Stage Company of Boston, he has been one of the most instrumental figures — perhaps even the key person — in the growth of the local theater scene.” -The Boston Globe of Spiro Veloudos

In addition to producing seven mainstage productions each season, The Lyric Stage Company presents the following special programs:

Growing Voices
Our new play development program which nurtures local writers and their work.

Lyric First Stage
Our annual five-week, intensive summer theatre program for teens.

Lyric First Curtain
Our program to provide theatre access and enrichment experiences to youth audiences.

The Lyric Stage Company of Boston is supported in part by a grant from The Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency and The Boston Cultural Council, a local agency which is funded by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, administrated by the Mayor’s Office of Arts, Tourism, and Special Events.
