Brendan Kenney

MUSIC DIRECTOR

Brendan J. Kenney is a music director, conductor, and accompanist in the Greater Boston area with more than fifteen years’ experience in educational, community, and professional theatre. He is the founder and administrator of “Call for Pit Orchestra Musicians,” a collaborative online initiative helping thousands of community musicians and contractors connect for employment and arts awareness needs around the world, including Boston, New York, and Toronto, Ontario.  Apart from musical theatre, Brendan spent the better part of a decade as a full time Director of Sacred Music, specializing in Gregorian Chant.  As a performer, he has been seen on stage at Boston Symphony Hall, Manchester’s SNHU Arena, Boston’s Orpheum Theater in Boston, and Tanglewood, and has provided back-up vocals for Sarah Brightman’s Hymn tour and Josh Groban’s Bridges tour.   Brendan can also be seen as a frequent featured artist for various cabarets across the North Shore.

Recognizing the lack of performance opportunities for musicians in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Brendan founded the Firebird Pops Orchestra virtually in the summer of 2020, and currently serves as the Music Director and President.  FPO’s virtual collaborations have provided unique and accessible performance opportunities for hundreds of musicians, and have reached widespread popularity with praise from Nerdist, Broadway World, WHDH, and FOX’s RightThisMinute.  As a result, Brendan has had the opportunity to consult with various school districts and universities to provide guidance on virtual performances for students and help keep music education thriving until in-person instruction resumes.  He is grateful to the Lyric Stage Company, Leigh, and the whole team for this opportunity to bring the arts to more people at home!
